Christ's Church of the Valley was born out of the wedding of a couple of dreams. First, the WCMA (Wisconsin Christian Missionary Association) was a church planting organization in Wisconsin who had a dream to see a relevant, contemporary non-denominational church started in the Appleton area. So in 1993 they began to look for a church planter to lead in starting this church. At the same time, Tim Snell, a church planter based in Denver, Colorado, had developed an interest in beginning just such a church in Wisconsin.
It was in the summer of 1993, at the North American Christian Convention, that Tim first ran into the WCMA. After hearing of their vision for starting a dynamic, relevant church in Appleton, Tim and his wife Mindy became very interested. One thing led to another and in the summer of 1994 Tim was hired by the WCMA to start the Appleton church. Soon three other Godly and visionary individuals joined Tim to help start the church. Shamra Garverick came to work with children. Ron Hulvey came to work with our small groups. And J.D. King came to lead worship.
In February of 1995, CCV began to take root as the very first Community Group was started. There were only 6 people at those first few meetings (and one of those was a baby!). But as the group dedicated themselves to God and to His directive to begin to reach out to the Fox Valley, He began to bless them. Soon that group grew and multiplied into two groups. By the end of that summer, nearly 25 people were involved in those two groups!
That fall, on September 17, Christ's Church of the Valley held her first worship service at McKinley Elementary School in southeast Appleton. Due to a large advertising campaign, 165 people came to celebrate God at CCV on that first Sunday. Many came as well wishers. Some drove from other towns and some even came from out of state to be there that Sunday. However, also in that crowd were people looking for God and for a church home. It was those people who would form the core of CCV.
Soon attendance leveled off. About 65-70 people came each Sunday in the fall of 1995, believing God would use them through CCV to begin impacting the Fox Valley for Christ. They have not been disappointed.
Today, CCV continues to grow at a steady pace. Over 200 people now consider CCV their church home. Lives are being changed, new friendships formed, and people are discovering the fulfillment that comes from knowing God. Without a doubt God is blessing us as we pursue the vision he has given us - to reach out to the Fox Valley area through an expanding network of Christians who are committed to Jesus Christ with all their hearts. It is our prayer that you too will join us in this adventure of faith and discover just how God can make your life count here at CCV!
